The Proposal

In August 2025, after Pablo’s long and excruciating Law School journey at the historic Howard University School of Law (HU!!!), we found ourselves on a plane flying to Cape Town, South Africa. Pablo said the trip was to celebrate the end of this chapter and the start of a new one for Naïka as she got accepted into Grad School.

Travel to Montreal

Grand Quai du Port

Old Port of Montreal, Montréal, QC, Canada

Located in the heart of Montreal's Old Port, the Grand Quai du Port is a magnificent institution that will be our headquarters for the whole wedding day. The ceremony will happen on the ethereal upstairs terrace, and the cocktails and reception will unfold in the glass Pavillion close to the terrace. While the newlyweds and their immediate family head off for a photoshoot, there will be a two-hour break after the ceremony to allow the logistics team to set everything up for the second part of the festivities. Guests are invited to take advantage of this downtime to explore the tourist district and the various spots that Pablo and Naïka recommend further down the page.

Half of our guests will be coming from the United States. We've hand-picked a few hotels near the venue to help you plan your trip. We are looking to reserve a block of rooms for our guests, and if you'd like a discount on your booking, please stay tuned in January for more information!

A boutique aparthotel right in Old Montreal, with individually decorated rooms — the closest of the three to Grand Quai du Port.

An upscale boutique hotel tucked into Old Montreal's cobblestone streets, close to Notre-Dame Basilica and the Old Port.

Hôtel Alt Montréal

~20 min walk (or short drive) from the venue · $$

A modern, minimalist hotel in Griffintown/downtown — a good budget-friendly option a bit further from Old Montreal.

Getting there

Montréal–Trudeau International Airport (YUL) is roughly a 25 minutes drive from Grand Quai du Port. We recommend flying in on Friday to make the most of the weekend and not have to rush the morning of the wedding.

Another option: a road trip! The drive from New York to Montreal is smooth and beautiful because it's a 7-hour drive in a straight line (6 hours if you drive fast). If you have the option to carpool, we recommend it.

For those who aren't concerned about comfort and are looking for the cheapest option, there are plenty of long-distance buses that make the trip from New York to Montreal in 8 hours (see flixbus.com). To visit each other in New York or Montreal, Pablo and Naïka ride with Flixbus every month!

What to pack

The end of August offers the last round of good Montreal summery weather! The days typically range from 20°C to 28°C (68–82.4°F), but late nights tend to go between 14°C to 18°C (57–64°F). Bring your best summer silhouettes, but bring a shawl or a light cardigan just in case.

Beaver Tails

If you have a sweet tooth, we highly recommend you try a Beaver Tail in Old Port Montreal! This sugary fried pancake is widely known as a Canadian staple, but only the real connoisseurs know that its origins trace back to Quebec.

This one is Naïka’s personal pick: if you’ve never tried Poutine before, you NEED to try a real sloppy and delicious one from this iconic Montreal institution to taste history. It’s an 18 minute walk from the wedding venue, so take advantage of the downtime to visit it.

This Jewish breakfast spot offers some WORLD renowned ricotta pancakes. These pancakes are so good that there is literally always a line to get a table. Arthur’s pancakes are our ultimate favorite ones so we suggest you Uber Eats them to your hotel room (LOL).

Lunch

Nouilles Lan Zhou

If you are in need of some comfort food, this noodle joint is where it's at. Naïka and Pablo usually go during Fall/Winter or rainy summer days, but there’s no such thing as a bad time for some quality hand-pulled Chinese noodles.

Dinner

3 Amigos

3 Amigos is an exceptional Mexican food chain that we usually go to whenever we don’t know what to eat, but we know that we want to eat good, drink good, save some coins, and have a festive time. It’s THAT restaurant that’s always there when you need it and it never disappoints you.

Pub

3 Brasseurs

The Holy Trinity, 3 Amigos, 3 Brasseurs…seems like the best things always come in 3! This one is our go-to pub for those nights we want a fresh craft beer and some thoughtful conversations en tête-à-tête. They have a vast selection of beers on tap, flavorful Flammekueche, some killer beer battered fries, and a fizzy ambiance.

Café

Manioky Café

Truthfully, we are being a little biased here because Manioky Café is actually Naïka’s family café! However, we are not being biased when we tell you that Manioky is an Afro-Caribbean café that stands out in the region and has been the talk of the town. The menu offers creative haitian sandwiches, gourmet salads, creole rice bowls, homemade pastries, specialty coffees, etc. The Café is located in Montreal’s suburbs and it’s a 40 min ride away from the venue. Come by Friday or Sunday! Pablo recommends the griot sandwich and the jerk chicken sandwich as well as the matcha latte, the salad, the tres leches and the passion fruit juice. Oh, also the patties. Everything honestly.

Museum

Society for Arts & Technology

Naïka used to work at this digital art museum so it was a headquarters for the couple. Their year-long program includes digital art exhibitions, artistic projections in their 360° immersive dome, concerts, and parties with electronic music DJ sets. They also have a café downstairs for more relaxed hangouts and a rooftop restaurant/wine bar for festive evenings.

Landmark

Place des Arts

Place des arts is the epicenter of arts, culture, and entertainment in Montreal. It is known to be a neighborhood animated by diverse festivals every week so if you decide to pass by, you can be sure to come across a crowd of people coming to enjoy some outdoor shows, to test public art installations, or to just spend a good time in the public square. If you want to simply experience the true spirit of Montreal, we recommend you plan a little visit there.

Some rules to note:

No white: as per tradition, it is reserved to the bride-to-be
No reds: please refrain from wearing any hues of red (pink is fine)

The ceremony will happen outdoor on a wood terrace, and most of the reception will be indoors with access to the outside terrace.

The wedding will be conducted in English with simultaneous French translation.

We’ll be celebrating with a multicultural buffet (Haitian/Puerto Rican/African American) featuring a variety of dishes and flavors! While there will be plenty of options to enjoy, we want everyone to feel comfortable and considered. If you have any food allergies, dietary restrictions, or concerns about the menu, please let us know when you RSVP. Your comfort and well-being are important to us!

Due to limited space, we are only able to accommodate those guests formally invited on your wedding invitation. If you received a plus one, they will appear under your name when you RSVP. Thank you for understanding!

The venue has its own parking garage and you can reserve a slot for the whole duration of the wedding for 30 CAD (roughly 22 USD) when you RSVP. Once we receive all RSVPs, we will be contacting everyone concerned to proceed with payments. You cannot reserve a parking spot the day of the wedding and finding a parking spot in Montreal's Old Port is very difficult.

The ceremony and reception spaces are all wheelchair accessible with an elevator both at the back of the venue and in the parking lot.

We suggest for the ladies to bring a shawl if you want to enjoy the night breeze on the terrace after midnight.

In case of bad weather (rain), the outdoor ceremony will still be happening under a tent.

If you are an American citizen, you do not need a visa for the weekend. If you're flying, you only need a valid American passport. If you're coming by land, you only need a valid American passport or a valid Enhanced Driver's License (EDL). We suggest you read this page from the Government of Canada for more information.
